Here at SAMI, we're always encouraging local songwriters to support each other. This summer has been jam-packed with events across Tippecanoe County alone; in recent weeks we've had The Indiana Fiddlers' Gathering, Wabash Riverfest, as well as the ongoing REC Room Live Concert Series. In this article we're highlighting just two upcoming events that will feature musicians deeply involved with SAMI.
If you'd like to dig deeper into the events taking place all over Lafayette and its surroundings, we encourage you to check out Visit Lafayette/West Lafayette. Also, let us know if you enjoy the content on the website. It helps us know we're on the right track!
Picnic with the Pack at Wolf Park
Up in Battle Ground, Wolf Park has dedicated over fifty years to educating the public on "fostering understanding, respect, and coexistence between humans and wildlife" according to their website. This unique and innovative place is just a short drive from Lafayette and West Lafayette, and their Picnic at the Park is a family-friendly event jam-packed with activities.
The event kicks off at 4pm with the delivery of treats to the park's animal ambassadors. You can share in the feast with food trucks, take part in conversation crafts, and enjoy live music by David Inskeep.
David is a dedicated member of SAMI who we recognized at this year's Shirley Martin Scholarship Reception for his contributions. He also interviewed Michele Cook, our Treasurer, on the website earlier this year. If you're at all interested in this event at Wolf Park, we encourage you to go and support him! He will be performing from 6pm to 7pm.

Concert and Barn Dance at Prophetstown State Park
Not far from Wolf Park, another event will be taking place at the same time, at Prophetstown State Park. The Farm at Prophetstown is a hotspot for interesting and exciting events, and this weekend is no exception. This Saturday, July 18th, you can enjoy two-and-a-half hours of live music at The Farm's iconic Gambrel Barn.
Banjo player John Ricks will open at 5:30pm, followed at 6:30pm by SAMI President Scott Greeson, Vickie Maris, and their backing band, along with some special guests. If you enjoy bluegrass and country music, this is the event for you!
The event is free with park admission, so no additional ticket purchase is required. Food and drinks will be available for purchase at the event.
