From Song to Sync: The Art of Metadata & Pitching for TV and Film

As many of you know, we’ve been hosting workshops about Sync Licensing, led by Ethan Bates. Previously we’ve discussed the possibility of a practice “pitch” session with a music supervisor.

Because of overwhelming demand, we are going to provide an additional Sync Licensing class before that session with the music supervisor. We have a lot of people who want to be educated on the details, and this will also make them eligible to attend the following session. We will be reviewing what Metadata is and how it can help your song be heard by a music supervisor. We will also discuss pitching to a music supervisor and what is needed to help serve their needs so your song has a better chance of being placed.

The next sync class will be on the evening of Tuesday, August 26th before the Mixer-Mixer. We will begin at 6pm. Feel free to stay after for Mixer-Mixer at 7:30 to receive feedback on your song's mix by our lead mix engineer, Neil McTavish.

The first feedback session with Andrea, who works in the industry as a music supervisor, will be the end of September. We'll keep you posted!

What will happen after this meeting?

Folks that have participated this far should review the slides provided by Ethan, and make the necessary adjustments to their recordings. This will best prepare them for the practice pitch session, where they will have the opportunity to present the same song on a future date with an music supervisor. If you attended a past workshop and don’t have the slide deck, please reach out to Scott or Andrew (samisecretary@gmail.com).

A Future Meeting with a Music Supervisor

What it is and what it is not

The music supervisor will not guarantee that you get a sync on film or TV. What they will do is give you professional feedback as someone who solicits music for film and TV as a full-time career.

Will there be a cost to participate in this?

We have to pay for the supervisor's time, so there will be a fee for each participant for this exclusive master class. Please note that because of the demand, we may have to schedule more than one meeting to have time for everyone. When the first pitch session is announced, it will be first come first serve. Additional meetings will follow based on demand, so hopefully anyone who couldn't attend the first one can have a chance.
